The Curious Codes Cipher Challenge
Comprehend It. Crack It. Conquer It.
Curious Codes is bringing Casual Crypto to SkillCon 3 with the Curious Codes Cipher Challenge!
The Cipher Challenge presented by Curious Codes will take place from December 17th - 22nd. Come learn about codes, ciphers and puzzles in a hands-on workshop environment. Test your skill and mental acumen with the Crypto Talisman Challenge and Curious Codes: The Game.
Workshops will be held on December 17th and 18th. They are free to attend and will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis (adults and accompanied children welcome, 30 people per session). At the workshops, you will receive hands on instruction in the art of cryptography and cryptanalysis from experienced puzzlers. Workshop attendees will receive a free Rosetta (see banner above, center) as a practical reference tool. The workshops are designed to provide the fundamental skills needed to advance to more difficult puzzles presented later in the Curious Codes Cipher Challenge.
The challenge begins with a Crypto Talisman, which is designed exclusively for SkillCon 3 and will be made available for pre-order (https://www.patreon.com/curiouscodes) prior to the conference and in the Crypto Portal at the conference. The talisman is $50 and will be distributed on December 19th at 10:00 am when the challenge begins. Solving this talisman will be the first stage in the challenge. The first 33 participants to complete the SkillCon Crypto Talisman will receive the second stage of the challenge: the Curious Codes 2.0 Talisman. This second stage will begin December 21st at 10:57 am.
Curious Codes: The Game
Curious Codes: The Game applies crypto fundamentals to physical challenges. Curious Codes: The Game will be made available to eight teams of four. Entrance into the game costs $300. Registration for Curious Codes: The Game opens November 1st (https://www.patreon.com/curiouscodes).
Curious Codes: The Game will begin on December 19th at 10:57 am and matches will take place every two hours. Each player will be assigned a station and must work both individually and as part of the team to solve the challenges and beat the clock. Gameplay will be followed by a walkthrough and group discussion. On December 20th each team will participate in a second match at a higher level of difficulty.
The two winning teams will be determined by average completion time over the two days. Those two fastest teams will advance to the finals on December 22nd. The finals will follow the same game structure at an increased level of difficulty.
